Seniors prepare for their last fashion show of the year. This time it’s for fun. No judges. No winner. No competition.
On May 25 seniors will hold their last fashion show. The show is neither a competition nor a contest; there is no winner and there are no judges. The event will take place in the South East High School auditorium during homeroom and is free of charge. The senior fashion show started last year and is expected to continue as a tradition for future years.
The leadership senior cabinet is in charge of organizing the show along with their advisor Ms. Che, a Visual and Performing Arts Academy teacher at SEHS. Only senior girls and guys will attend and participate. Organizers expect to have about 15-20 people participate this year.
“There are things that we are improving this year to make it better than last year,” says Heidi Siguenza, Associated Student Body President (ASB) at SEHS. Siguenza also stated that she believes the show will be successful because they had a lot more people sign up than expected.
Senior class president Pauline Velazquez said, “Of course it’s going to be successful, everybody loves fashion shows.”
Many SEHS students are anxiously waiting for the fashion show which is only weeks away.
“I’ve never gone to a fashion show at this school, so I can’t wait to see this one,” says Vianca Rodriguez, a junior at SEHS.
On May 5, leadership went to different homerooms to recruit people who wanted to sign up to participate in the upcoming fashion show. Everybody who signed up got accepted to participate and they will be modeling it in the same order that they signed up.
The senior girls will be modeling prom dresses while the senior guys model tuxedos by Ana Rosa, a local designer in South Gate.
“I’m so excited to see all the people on stage and what they’ll be wearing,” says Mariana Reinoso, a senior at SEHS.
For many seniors it is important to cherish these last events because these are memorable moments of high school. “I can’t believe this is one of the last senior events I am going to participate in,” says Marcos Lopez, a member of the senior cabinet.

I had no idea their was going to be a fashion show. I cant wait to see it. I have not seen a fashion show in this school yet. It's no surprise they got more than the expected amount of people to sign up for it.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know this was the very last fashion show for seniors! I think its really great the fact that seniors get to have a fashion show as their last event. Its great to see know many students will be attending it and aren't going to miss out. For sure many will go to it during homeroom and will really enjoy it. I've never really been to one but i can tell its very fun and exciting to watch and also experience for those who are participating in it. This is going to be very memorable for seniors! Its good it will keep going as a tradition so others that will become seniors will have the opportunity to experience it as well. Will the fashion show have opportunities for those who would want to be in that particularly career?
ReplyDeleteLike Marlene said, it's a good thing that this show isn't a contest or competition because it's a Senior Fashion Show, one of the last good times before the school year ends. I'm sure that there are many people excited about it, since it's a lot of different friends walking on that stage. I think you got good quotes you provided enough information. However, you could have explained the purpose of the show a bit. I'm just a bit thrown off by one thing: Why do you have a quote from a junior if it's only a Senior event?
ReplyDeleteIt is good that there is no competition in the fashion show because it would cause drama between all of them. I am sure that the show will get good ratings from students. Your story has good details and well structured. What would have made this a billion times better is an interview with the person who started this fashion show. But I am asking myself one question. What is the purpose of the show?
